Salesman Demo Kit

Salesman Demo Kit

In the 1960s, fire alarm salesmen would bring this Fire-Lite kit around when selling to customers. The salesman would heat up the sterno in this demo kit to demonstrate the effects of heat from a fire on the first, second, and third floor of a building.

The immediacy of seeing these effects right in front of their eyes would often scare customers, convincing them to buy a system on the spot. This was a way to market alarm systems through fear. It was effective, but did not earn the industry a good reputation.
