Tripwire Alarm

Have you ever heard of an alarm “tripping”? This is where that term comes from.

This self-contained burglar alarm system used a thin wire with a hook on the end attached to a microswitch. The wire would run across a door, garage, or any area that the customer wanted to protect. When a burglar’s foot caught on the wire—literally tripping them—it would pull and activate the alarm.
