Cookout Safety Tips

With summer approaching and Memorial Day this weekend, it is time to start looking forward to beaches, nice weather and cookouts. Having a Memorial Day cookout is a tradition for many and with these tips you can ensure it is done safely.

Ensure Your Grill is In a Safe Space – A grill should be placed outside, never used indoors or under a surface, and well away from your home, garage, trees, or anything else that could potentially start a fire.

Never Leave a Grill Unattended – This one may seem obvious, but it still needs to be said. Never leave your grill unattended, it only takes a matter of seconds for trouble to start. If you need to run off, make sure you have someone supervising the grill.

Clean Your Grill – By not allowing fat and grease to build up not only does it prevent the chances of fires, but also prevents food and bacteria build up. Ideally you should clean your grill before and after every use.

Always Keep a Fire Extinguisher Out – Even if you follow all the above steps, accidents can still happen. Always have a fire extinguisher nearby when grilling in case of emergency.

Double Check Your Grill is Off – I know, it sounds obvious, but double checking is never a bad idea. Better safe than sorry.

By following these tips in preparation for Memorial Day weekend, we hope your long weekend goes exactly as planned.
